Casino Night Incite Hibiscus Festival Boycott
Hibiscus Festival is facing boycott due to casino night.
Members of Fiji Methodist Church urged followers to boycott the Hibiscus fete.
Reverend Ame Tugaue, secretary general of the church, condemned the organizing committee of the Hibiscus festival for presenting a casino night as part of the festivities that is scheduled in Suva's Albert Park next month.
Reverend Tugaue said that the Methodist Church in Rotuma and Fiji will not support the gambling in Fiji. He is advising the organizing committee to find other ways of raising money.
According to the reverend, the church in Fiji will make sure that gambling will not be launched in Fiji.
Early this year, the overseas businessmen that deals in gambling business approached the church.
The overseas businessmen had tried to persuade the church to support gambling in Fiji.
Reverend Tugaue said that the church would be firm against all forms of gambling.
The church is disappointed at the government as it allows the casino night to be part of the hibiscus festival.
The reverend is convincing the Methodists not to take part in the casino night.
However, Aqela Cakobau, Hibiscus Committee secretary, said that the casino night is legal and the money from the casino night would benefit the charity.
